Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords :

I-n-1E Standing Joint Committee is

1 anxious that the views of vehicle users in respect of design and construction shall be made known to the makers, so that they may be incorporated, so far as may be practicable, in future models.

, As we have already mentioned, the task of gathering these views, collating them and arranging them for submission to the makers concerned will be undertaken by the Vehicle Supply and Maintenance Committee of the S.J.C. This is claimed to be widely, representative of all parts of the country and of the various classes of transport operator, whilst it has the assistance of several Well-known and .qualided' advisers. • This committee is constantly bearing in' mind the desirability of securing standardization of parts and fittings, whilst in respect of each particular class of vehicle it will„, be prepared to deal with such questions as capacity, motive power, general design, etc.

The committee takes the opportunity of acknowledging that useful preliminary work has already been undertaken, so far as goods vehicles are concerned, whilst considerable progress has been made by passenger-vehicle operators in tabulating their requirements and presenting them to the vehicle makers.

The M.O.W.T. has, in the past, consulted the committee on the occasion of each new production programme, and, so far as war-time production allows, a number of raddifications designed to meet the needs of hauliers has been secured: ' The coinmittee now asks that operators should submit their views on any particular aspects % of these problems with which they are concerned. General experience of existing vehicles, with suggestions for improvement, will be useful. All communications should be sent to Mr. G. W. Quick Smith, Secretary, Standing Joint Committee, 15, Elizabeth Street, London, SAVA, marked for the Vehicle Supply and Maintenance Committee.

It will be interesting to follow this development and see whether this particular committee receives sufficient documentary evidence Of the need for various improvements to be effected. At least, it shows that quick action is being'taken to put into practice some of the hints and advice contained in the dozens of letters on this subject which have appeared in "The Commercial Motor " during the past few months as a result of the conference on the matter. which we held last March.
