Numerous applications made to the 'Cardiff Watch Committee for sanction to run additional buses and found new services from Cardiff to the more westward towns and villages of South Wales have, from time to time, been turned down by the committee on account of the narrowness of Canton Bridge.
The termini for several long distance bus services into Cardiff have also been fixed at inconc40
venient distances from the centre of the town for the same reason, and the Ministry of Transport has signified its approval of this ruling and has even proscribed the Cardiff Council from adding to its own bus services over the bridge.
The bridge is a link in the main eastto-west mute through Cardiff, and much inconvenience to general traffic is occasioned by its narrowness. It will, therefore, be good news to transport owners generally that an offer of land to lower and widen the bridge has been made to the Cardiff Council by the Bute Estate.
In consequence of this, widening is to be undertaken and the road between Castle Street and the corner of Cathedral Road straightened and improved. A grant in respect of the costof the undertaking has been applied for, and there is no reason to believe that it will not be granted.
